DCR recruit lifeguards and waterfront safety staff for the 2025 summer season - Representative Joe McGonagle

DCR recruit lifeguards and waterfront safety staff for the 2025 summer season

It’s that time of year again – lifeguard recruitment season for DCR! We announced this week that applications are open for lifeguards and waterfront safety staff for our 32 guarded beaches, 24 swimming pools and two wading pools across the state for the 2025 summer season.

Every summer, our beaches and pools welcome thousands of families, residents and visitors of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Recruiting, hiring and training qualified lifeguards is critical to ensuring a safe and fun experience for all.

Working as a DCR lifeguard is a great summer job – they get to work outside, make good money and maybe even save some lives. We offer competitive wages ranging from $22 to $27, depending on the position and required certifications. Additionally, qualified candidates who apply early and work through the end of the season can earn up to $1,250 in bonuses.

Qualified candidates must be at least 16 years old by the date of their hire, complete lifeguard training and be certified in first aid and CPR. We offer free lifeguard training classes through April for qualified candidates that commit to working for DCR. For more information visit www.mass.gov/lifeguard
