Temporary Overnight Lane Closures on Route 1 Northbound at Chelsea Viaduct

Overnight closures beginning Monday, July 7, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning.

BOSTON/CHELSEA – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing overnight lane closures on Route 1 northbound where it passes through the Chelsea Viaduct portion, beginning on Monday, July 7, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning. One lane will remain open throughout the closure period. These closures are expected to continue on a Sunday night through Friday night schedule.

These overnight closures are required to allow crews to complete maintenance work associated with the milling, paving, and application of pavement markings on the roadway. In some cases, MassDOT may require closures to continue through 7:00 a.m.

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area. 

Drivers traveling through the affected area should use caution. 

All scheduled work is weather dependent and may be impacted due to an emergency.
