Temporary Overnight Closure of the Sumner Tunnel (Route 1A Southbound)

 

Tunnel will be closed overnight on Tuesday, January 21, from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning.

 

BOSTON – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing a closure of the Sumner Tunnel (Route 1A southbound) for inspections and maintenance operations. This closure will be overnight on Tuesday, January 21, from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning. 

 

Drivers will be detoured through the Ted Williams Tunnel. 

 

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area. 

 

Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

 

All scheduled work is weather dependent and may be impacted due to an emergency.
